Blue Bossa is a jazz standard written by trumpeter Kenny Dorham. To be honest,
the melody has always left me a little unexcited, and I'd be surprised if
I was the first to say this. However, the sequence is totally great and
really fun to play on and I'm fairly sure this is why this song has stood
the test of time for jazz musicians. It's a very simple 16 bar sequence
in a minor key with a nice shift up a minor third in the second eight. Whenever
a sequence moves up or down a minor third, for me, it can often present
a nice way of developing thematic material. I took eight choruses on this
song so there is a lot of information if you want to devour it. Have fun!
